Every picking state, field, and control explained — the worklist filters, the line-item counts, the two ways to close a picking out, and who is allowed to run each one.

Your line lead radios up mid-shift: how many cases of jasmine rice are still on the pull for Production, and which shelf are they sitting on? You open the picking and read the answer off the screen. A holds the whole job — the lots, the shelves, the case counts, and who pulled what. This is the field guide to every state and number on it, on the Picking screen under Inventory. Line+
The picking list
The Picking screen opens on every picking for the company you're working in, newest first. Each row carries the picking number, a status badge, a type badge, and a line of context beneath it: the destination, the expected picking date, and how many items are on the pull.
A row of controls above the list narrows what you see:
Search by picking number matches the number, like PICK-0000001.
Status filters to a single state — Approved, Picked, Partially picked, or Cancelled.
Type filters to Manual or Automatically.
Department filters to one destination.
Sort orders the list by created date, picking number, or expected date, and the arrow beside it flips between ascending and descending.
Clear all drops every filter and sort back to the default.
New, in the top right, opens the builder for a fresh picking. It shows only for a role allowed to both add and approve pickings, because a picking is created already approved.
Three pickings, each with its own status badge — Approved, Partially picked, and Picked — and a Manual type badge, above a line naming the destination, the expected date, and the item count.
Picking statuses
A picking's status is its stage, shown as a badge on the list and at the top of the picking itself.
Approved — the working state. A picking is born approved, ready for the crew. Its lines can be picked, and while it stays approved you can add lines, remove untouched ones, or edit it.
Picked — every line was pulled in full. The picking is complete and the cases have left as a shipped delivery.
Partially picked — the picking was closed with some cases pulled but not all. What you picked shipped; what you left stayed on the shelf.
Cancelled — the picking was closed with nothing pulled at all. No delivery was created.
Statuses follow the work
You never set a picking's status from a menu. Bettr reads it from what has actually happened — cases pulled, the picking closed out — so the badge always matches the last real thing that was done. Pick the lines and close the picking with the buttons on its screen, and the status catches up.
Type
The type badge says how a picking came to be.
Manual — someone built it by hand on this screen.
Automatically — Bettr created it when someone picked ingredients for a scheduled production run. It reaches the floor already staged with the lots that run needs.
What's on a picking
Open a picking and its heading carries the number and the current status and type badges, with a line beneath it: the destination, the expected picking date, and when it was created. A picking whose shipped delivery synced to your accounting system also shows an Open in Odoo SO link here.
Items
Every lot to pull is a line. Each line shows the product name and code and a Complete or Pending badge — Pending until every case on the line is picked, then Complete. Alongside sits the running count and where the stock lives:
Qty — the number of cases the line asks for.
Picked — how many cases have been pulled so far.
Remaining — what is still owed: the quantity minus what's picked.
Lot — the lot number to pull, and the supplier's own lot number in parentheses where it differs.
Location — the shelf code, with how many cases sit there right now in parentheses.
Lot on-hand — the total cases of that lot across every location.
Notes — anything recorded on the line, when there are any.
While the picking is approved, each unpicked line carries a Pick button, and a line with nothing picked against it carries a remove control.
Two lines on a picking, each with a Pending badge and a running count — quantity, picked, and remaining — beside the lot, the shelf it holds, and the cases on hand.
People
Requested by — who built the picking.
Reviewed by — shown with the creation date. A picking is approved the moment it's created, so this is the same person who requested it.
Picked by — who closed the picking out, with the date. It reads as a dash until the picking is finished.
Summary
Total items — how many lines are on the picking.
Total quantity — the cases across every line added up.
Picked quantity — the cases pulled so far.
Progress — the picked quantity as a share of the total.
Notes
Free text for the whole picking. It shows only when there is a note to show.
Picking a line
Pick on a line opens a small dialog that repeats the numbers — how many to pick, how many are already picked, how many remain, and the lot — then takes the cases you actually pulled:
Quantity (cases) — a whole number from 1 up to what's remaining.
Pick all, Pick 1, and Pick half set that quantity for you.
Pick item confirms the pull, draws the cases off the shelf, and records who pulled them.
Back on the picking, Scan QR Code jumps straight to the line a scanned lot belongs to. When one lot sits on more than one line, it lists them so you choose which to pick against.
Closing out a picking
An approved picking with at least one line carries two ways to finish, both run by a role with the pick permission:
Pick all as expected picks every remaining line up to the number of cases its shelf actually holds, then closes the picking. A product not set up with a case weight is passed over rather than forced.
Finish picking partially closes the picking with only what you have already pulled.
Either way, the cases you picked move off your on-hand count as a shipped delivery, recorded against the exact lots that left. That delivery lands on your books as a sales order, so the stock that walked out stays counted and traceable. Close a picking with nothing picked and it lands as Cancelled, with no delivery.
Finishing can't be undone
A closed picking — Picked, Partially picked, or Cancelled — is read-only, and the shipped delivery it created stays on the books. Unpicked cases are not held open for a later pass; what you didn't pick simply stays on the shelf. Pull the quantities you truly took before you close it out.
Editing and discarding
While a picking is Approved, you can still shape it, each control its own permission:
Edit reopens the builder for the header and lines. A line that already has cases picked against it is locked, so the record of what left stays intact.
Add item appends a lot-and-location line. Its picker lists a product's lots soonest-to-expire first, following .
The remove control drops a line that has nothing picked against it.
Discard hides a picking from every list, at any stage. Any stock the crew already drew stays recorded — discarding hides the picking, it does not put cases back on the shelf.
Who can do what
Each action on a picking is gated by its own permission, so a role can be given only the parts of the job it owns:
Viewing a picking needs the view permission.
Creating a new picking needs both the add and the approve permission.
Adding an item to an approved picking needs the add permission.
Picking lines, Pick all as expected, Finish picking partially, and Scan QR Code need the pick permission.
Editing a picking needs the change permission.
Removing a line and Discarding need the delete permission.
